Hometown Connections and Mycoff, Fry & Prouse Join Forces To Address Growing Shortage of Experienced Public Power Managers

Hometown Connections - 08.26.2010

With public power managers retiring at a faster rate than new managers can be trained and ready, Hometown Connections is joining with utility recruiting firm Mycoff, Fry & Prouse to promote a new temporary employment placement service called “Strategic Power Placements” (SPP) for members of the American Public Power Association (APPA). SPP will consist of contract management services for the interim placement of recently retired industry leaders with the skills necessary to fulfill voids within the executive ranks of a public power organization.

Strategic Power Placements will be an industry resource to public power utilities, joint action agencies, and state associations, providing experienced professionals for temporary assignment. SPP will help public power organizations identify their needs and make available interim employees on a contract basis to fill executive positions, lead special projects, and mentor permanent employees.

“By partnering with Mycoff, Fry & Prouse, public power’s premier executive search firm, we are helping to address our industry’s ‘brain drain’ as retirement rates and hiring freezes delay the appointment of fully qualified utility directors, department heads, and project managers,” said Tim Blodgett, President & Chief Executive Officer, Hometown Connections. “Our network of retirees will enable APPA members to keep their budgets and project schedules on track, rather than lose ground during an executive search process. Our power professionals will also serve as valuable mentors to the permanent staff, sharing their considerable expertise in utility engineering, finance, operations, and management.”

“It is important to note that Strategic Power Placements is not designed to recruit current public power officials from one organization to another,” said Carl A. Mycoff, Managing Director. “Our unique approach is to utilize the pool of retired utility executives and experts to the advantage of all APPA member organizations. We are pleased and excited to partner with Hometown Connections to offer this innovative service.”
