From an organizational perspective, energy business planners and engineers are already diving into the traditional work stream planning, developing high level strategic roadmaps into context diagrams, work stream definitions, project portfolios, programs and individual projects for Information Technology, Power Delivery, Customer Service, Billing and others. However, implementing Smart Grid successfully will require utilities to develop integrated change management programs differently than previously undertaken by their organizations.
Typically, technology and process initiatives involve an upgrade or replacement of a system, a process or event. In the case of Smart Grid technologies, the organization will have to move far beyond a standard process and technology change, completely redesigning customer and departmental interactions.
