2002 Green Trading Summit: Emissions, Renewables and Negawatts

Published By Global Change Associates

  • Published February 2002
  • 8 Page(s)

We believe the Green Trading Summit is unique in providing valuable business and personal opportunities through new information and networking. The Summit was also designed to promote action. Most conferences are thinly veiled sales pitches. Most environmental seminars close with subjective calls for conservation and a prescription for legal/political action. These recommendations for legal/political action show little understanding of technology or the value of incentives for achieving demonstrable results. In contrast, the Green Trading Summit presented proven concepts from practitioners to meet environmental goals – without the potentially drastic economic consequences of ill-informed policies and regulation. The Summit presented an overview of four major themes:

  • Problems in emissions markets and valuation
  • Relationships among emissions, energy consumption, weather, regulation, political action and world interests
  • Market solutions to reduce emissions
  • Demonstrated results
This summary abstracts the presentations as they relate to these major themes. It uses the presentations to support overall conclusions and includes recommendations to promote the value and environmental/business opportunities created by market solutions. However, it is up to each of us to combine the new information with our own individual business strategies and advance marketplace solutions. The Summit presented important information to lead the way, rather than muddle through impractical political directions. The recommendations highlight general topics we think deserve additional marketplace promotion – to a broad range of market influences. We believe – and our Summit proved – that profit is a better motivator for environmental action than regulation. Throughout the year we intend to keep you posted on advances in market solutions. In the future we intend for Green Trading Summits to continue to provide you with valuable insights to achieve measurable environmental goals and profit in the environmental marketplace.
