Neptune Technology Group Case Study
Neptune Technology Group Inc. has deployed an innovative mobile
solution at Allegheny Energy, a major energy company that owns and
operates electric generating facilities and delivers electric and natural
gas service to four million people in the US. Neptune Technology created
a flexible mobile application called Fieldnet®. Fieldnet automates field
service work including the collection of meter reading data, consolidates
it and sends it to Allegheny Energy’s customer information system for bill
generation. Using this application, more than 250 Allegheny Energy field
employees using handhelds can quickly access and update information
without having to worry about slow connections or loss of data integrity.
Using FieldNet, Allegheny Energy has empowered a mobile workforce
while reducing costs associated with administration, training, and IT
infrastructure.
United Utilities Case Study
United Utilities, providing power and water to northwest England, needed
a solution to manage the laptops of
more than 200 clean water inspectors in the field. With Sybase®
technology, United Utilities ensures its inspectors
have all the information they need to keep the water pure and its
customers satisfied.
Sargent Electric Case Study
Sargent Electric Company, a nationally ranked electrical contracting firm
serving the industrial, commercial and utility markets, needed to
enhance its automated meter reading (AMR) projects. Using Sybase
technology, Sargent created a handheld application, improving staff
efficiency and data accuracy.
Electrical Safety Authority
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) inspects all electrical installations
related to new construction, renovations or maintenance in commercial,
industrial and residential settings. Each year, ESA receives
approximately 350,000 new requests for inspections. This amounts to
an average of 20 inspections a day for its 220 inspectors.
Managing this process in an efficient, cost-effective manner had been a
complex challenge.
Providing Flexible Device Management for Utilities
Ergon Energy’s 800,000 plus power poles are located throughout
regional and remote Queensland, Australia, providing 580,000
residential and business customers with a quality, reliable electricity
supply.
When high-level work orders and maintenance plans for the poles are
released to the various contractors and internal staffing bodies, planners
then take the available work and distribute it out to the field inspectors. In
addition to performing routine maintenance, the inspectors are then
required to update a number of details about the pole, including the
number of attached assets (lights, switches), defects and any minor
maintenance conducted, for ongoing asset management purposes. It
takes approximately three years for all power poles in Ergon’s power
distribution infrastructure to be inspected.
