Siemens to expand power supply network in the United Arab Emirates

Siemens Energy, Inc. - 03.11.2010

Siemens Energy has received an order worth approximately EUR30 million from Dubai-based Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) as part of power supply network expansion. The order from the United Arab Emirates covers the supply of a turnkey substation in Fujeirah, one of the northern emirates. Four substations will also be modernized. The power supply project is scheduled for completion within 15 months.

The turnkey substation for the 132- and 33-kilovolt (kV) voltage levels will be supplied together with Siemens transformers, protection equipment, and instrumentation and controls. It will be erected in the town of Qidfa in the emirate of Fujeirah and will in the future strengthen the power supply network in the north of the United Arab Emirates. Four existing substations will also be modernized in the neighboring emirates of Ras-al-Kaimah and Ajman. "We're pleased that our proven technology will be deployed to stabilize the power transmission network in the northern emirates," said Wolfgang Braun, General Manager within the Power Transmission and Power Distribution Divisions of Siemens Energy in the Lower Gulf region. This order derives from the good business relationship between FEWA and Siemens and FEWA, which lasts for many years.

In total, Siemens will supply 10 bays 132-kV and 63 panels 33-kV for gas-insulated switchgear as well as two 90 MVA transformers from its production plants in Berlin, Dresden and Frankfurt.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas.
