New JumboSwitch(R) IP Gateway Extends IEEE C37.94 Fiber Interfaces In Power Utility Teleprotection Networks

TC Communications, Inc. - 08.16.2010

A new IP Gateway that extends IEEE C37.94 fiber optic circuits for Teleprotection Relays in Power Utilities is the latest addition to the 11 different existing Ethernet, Voice & Data interface cards that make up TC Communication’s JumboSwitch® product family.

Featuring extremely low latency of less than 5 msec., one way, the TC3846-2 C37.94-over-IP Gateway extends one or two IEEE C37.94 fiber optic circuits over Layer 2/3 Ethernet Networks.

The JumboSwitch® Industrial Gigabit Ethernet Modular Switch offers all popular features and capabilities of standard Ethernet Switches, but differs in that it also supports TDM-over-IP and VoIP.

The IEEE C37.94 standard defines the communication interconnection (e.g. signal framing, data rates, jitter parameters, physical connections, etc.) between different vendors’ teleprotection and multiplexer devices using multimode optical fiber.

Each TC3846-2 C37.94 channel is independent and transparent to protocols and signaling used. Other features include VLAN, QoS, Traffic Monitoring and Statistics, Network Time Server (NTP Server), Remote Firmware Upgrade and Temperature and Power Consumption Monitoring.

Setup, diagnostics, and management are accessed via Web, SNMP, Serial Console and Telnet. Diagnostics include LED indicators and local and remote loopback to assist with troubleshooting and maintenance. An industrial hardened version with a temperature range -40°C to +80°C is optional.
