The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) has received a contract from Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) for coal- and natural gas-fired Cyclone™ furnace replacements at its Bailly Generating Station in Chesterton, Ind.
Work will be completed on Bailly Unit 7, a 194-megawatt B&W Radiant Boiler Carolina type that has been in operation since the early 1960s. B&W will supply four 10-foot natural circulation Cyclone furnaces and a lower main furnace, as well as thin-door radial burners, gas igniters, windbox casing, ductwork, platforms, accessory equipment and delivery.
The new Cyclones will feature many technological improvements to improve Cyclone boiler operation and optimize fuel firing flexibility.
Fabrication for the project will be completed at B&W’s West Point, Miss., plant, while headers will be manufactured at the company’s Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, facility. Materials are scheduled for delivery in August 2006.
