Utility design process workflow and ERP Optimization at SCE

Tuesday Apr 10, 2012 - 12:00 PM Eastern Presented by Energy Central
Virtual Event

At Southern California Edison, we have standardized and obtained efficiencies in our design and engineering processes by utilizing AutoCAD Utility Design (AUD) as our Transmission & Distribution graphical design tool. This session will present a closer look at the approach used to unify our design process using AUD, beginning with external work management through the workflow and ending with the validation of the design and Bill of Materials being sent to an external Work Management system.

At Southern California Edison, we have standardized and obtained efficiencies in our design and engineering processes by utilizing AutoCAD Utility Design (AUD) as our Transmission & Distribution graphical design tool. In our January 18th, 2012 webcast "Unifying the Design Process and ERP Optimization at SCE",  we examined the major technical changes throughout the organization and the entire work order process at Southern California Edison as we unified our design process with a new utility design software.

This session will present a closer look at the approach used to unify our design process using AUD, beginning with external work management through the workflow and ending with the validation of the design and Bill of Materials being sent to an external Work Management system. Along the way, we will discuss accessing external mapping and SAP asset information within AUD and also the tool's ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements throughout the design process. With an emphasis on realizing the benefits of an IPSEC (Initiate, Plan, Schedule, Execute, Close) based work order lifecycle, we will also discuss SCE's solution to T&D design interactivity through our estimating and material ordering phases and our approach to eliminating the need for manual entry directly into ERP systems (SAP).
