The irony of a utility looking at itself to become more energy efficient doesn’t keep Exelon from improving its own bottom line through an internal energy efficiency program. Increasing internal energy efficiency at Exelon provides benefits on both sides of the ledger. In many cases a saved kWh results in a cost savings and a benefit to a facility’s own budget. In other cases a saved kWh means one more kWh is freed up to put on the grid for sale. And on the environmental front, Exelon is using the documented energy savings from its internal energy efficiency results to count toward its voluntary 2008 greenhouse gas reduction commitment.
