Artificial intelligence for smart grids: Can UK academia beat Google?
A UK-based startup has an interesting take on how artificial intelligence, which is all the rage in the technology industry right now, can change smart grids. Upside Energy Graham Oakes' basic idea consists of aggregating data related to demand side and developing algorithms to better manage allocation and distribution of resources. "Managing small, diverse loads is our core," he says, adding that they manage a unique range and type of assets. Upside Energy has managed around 400 kW of load from 20 sites in the last two years and is providing frequency response services to National Grid in the UK.
