An American energy plan straight from coal country
Count The Washington Post among the growing list of news outlets having an easy time finding critics of Energy Secretary Rick Perry's plan to provide financial support to power plants (think coal and nuclear) that maintain 90-day fuel supplies on-site. The support would come in the form of a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rule designed to "ensure that certain reliability and resilience attributes of electric generation resources are fully valued." FERC requested, and Perry granted, a 30-day extension on the proposal at the end of last week. Without documenting a direct cause-and-effect connection, The Post's coverage lays the genesis of Secretary Perry's proposal at the doorstep of the coal industry generally and coal mining company Murray Energy specifically.
