Despite the frigid temperatures, the regional transmission organization for much of the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Midwest sounded an optimistic note in a Jan. 3 news release on electricity demand. PJM and its members "have the necessary generation reserves to cover the load with no projected transmission system constraints or major gas pipeline supply issues,” said dispatch Director Chris Pilong. A Cold Weather Alert has been issued for Friday and Saturday, however.
